Jewellery Photography Studio

Why jewellery needs its own photography process

Photographing jewellery isn't the same job as photographing a candle or a t-shirt. A faceted stone, a polished band and a matte finish can all sit in the same frame - and if a studio treats jewellery like any other product, one of those textures usually loses out.

With over a decade spent photographing fine jewellery and watches, we've built a process around exactly that problem. Every shoot starts with macro lenses, focus stacking for sharpness across the whole piece, and lighting set up around how that specific metal and stone combination behaves - not a single generic setup reused for whatever comes through the door that day.

Our standard jewellery shot

  • Focus-stacked for edge-to-edge sharpness
  • Colour-calibrated per metal - gold reads as gold
  • Diffused lighting to control glare on stones and polished metal
  • Retouched by a specialist jewellery editor

Often only a costly upgrade elsewhere

  • Single-frame macro shot
  • One white balance setting for every metal
  • Harsh reflections or blown-out highlights
  • A quick, generic retouching pass
White Background Packshots

Clean white background jewellery photography for eCommerce

The most requested style of jewellery photography, and for good reason - a plain white or on-brand background keeps every listing consistent and works across your website, marketplace listings and print catalogues alike. It's often mistaken for the simplest style to shoot, but capturing full detail and sparkle against a flat background takes exactly the same focus-stacking and lighting discipline as any other jewellery photography job we do.

Modelled Jewellery Shots

Modelled jewellery photography that shows scale and fit

A plain packshot tells a customer what a piece looks like; a modelled shot tells them how it feels to wear. We work with our own in-house models on a regular basis, or can source a model with a specific look for your brand if you need one - a simple way to add scale, context and a little more warmth to your jewellery photography.

Creative & Lifestyle Photography

Creative jewellery photography for advertising campaigns

If you're photographing a whole collection together, or want something with more depth than a plain background, creative jewellery photography is usually the answer. We compose your pieces against props, textures and backgrounds of your choice, giving you campaign-ready imagery as distinctive as your brand.

360° Rotations

360° jewellery photography for a fully interactive view

For customers who want to inspect a piece from every angle before they buy, our 360° rotations let shoppers spin and zoom into an animated, interactive image, right on your product page. It's particularly effective for rings, bangles and watches, where the sense of scale and finish matters as much as the design.

Frequently Asked Questions

Jewellery photography questions, answered

Where is M.O. Studios based, and do you photograph jewellery outside Birmingham?

Our main jewellery photography studio is in Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter, with an additional studio in London. We work with jewellery and watch brands across the whole of the UK, either in one of our studios or via secure courier.

What jewellery photography styles do you offer?

We offer four core styles: white background packshots for catalogues and marketplaces, modelled shots on our in-house or brand-sourced models, creative photography styled with props and backgrounds, and 360° rotations for an interactive view. Most clients mix and match styles across different pages of their site.

How much does jewellery photography cost?

Jewellery photography starts from £15 per image for a Standard packshot, £30 for an Advanced product shot with extra lighting and retouching, and £50 or more for Premium editorial-level imagery. Exact pricing depends on your shot list, so get in touch for a free, tailored quote.

Can you photograph diamonds, gemstones and different metals accurately in the same shot?

Yes - this is one of the core skills of jewellery photography. We use focus stacking for edge-to-edge sharpness and colour-calibrate per metal, so gold reads as gold and silver as silver, with genuine stone sparkle and no blown-out highlights.

Do you offer modelled jewellery photography?

Yes. We work with our own in-house models on a regular basis, or can source a model with a specific look if your brand needs one. Modelled shots are a popular way to show scale, fit and how a piece looks when worn.

Do you offer 360° jewellery photography?

Yes. Our 360° rotations let customers view a piece from every angle and zoom in on fine detail, right on your product page - particularly useful for rings, bangles and watches, where shoppers want extra reassurance before buying.

Do you offer a free test shoot?

Yes. We'll photograph one of your pieces free of charge, with no obligation, so you can see the quality, consistency and colour accuracy of our jewellery photography before committing to a full shoot.

Do I need to visit the studio, or can I send my jewellery in?

Either works. You're welcome to visit our Birmingham or London studio in person, or arrange secure delivery, and we'll photograph, retouch and return your pieces without you needing to travel.

How long does jewellery photography take?

Turnaround depends on the size of your shot list, but most orders are delivered within a few working days of the shoot. Let us know your deadline when you book and we'll confirm a timeline that works for you.
